Dating is hard…
Single mom Maggie Hayes puts up a tough front to hide her loneliness, spending her days in the courtroom as a lawyer and her evenings as a closet video gamer. Another heartache isn’t worth the risk, not after her husband left her last year for a Hooters waitress. When she decides to try dating again, a cute video game-designing nerd seems like a safe bet….Until he becomes the prime suspect in a murder.
But falling in love can be murder…
Jeremy Rogers makes a good living designing video games, but nothing prepares him for the real world adventure of being accused of poisoning his own employee. Add in falling for a sassy attorney with a competitive ex-husband, a clingy blonde coworker, and a mammoth-size dog that eats his furniture. Suddenly fighting off a screen full of zombies or preventing an alien invasion seems like child’s play.

Game over!
Maggie and Jeremy find themselves embroiled in a game of death threats, lies, and betrayal. Maggie must learn to trust again while playing the most dangerous game of all. Because defeat could mean not only losing her heart, but also her life…

Revisit the quaint Colorado town of Pleasant Valley and sit in with the Page Turners Book Club, a group of book-loving women who double as extremely amateur detectives. Join them as they set out to help their friend, while devouring good literature and some really great desserts.

“Hey, gals,” Maggie said on a rush of air as Edna threw her arms around her in a theatrical embrace. Maggie gave her a quick squeeze, the smell of lavender and vanilla filling the air as she nestled her chin in the cloud of Edna’s silver curls. Mabel reached out and squeezed Maggie’s hand.
Jeremy seemed to be pleased by the appearance of the two geriatric Nancy Drews, but Maggie’s eyes narrowed with suspicion at Edna. “It’s amazing how you always seem to be in the middle of whatever excitement is going on.”
Edna shrugged and gave her a look of mock innocence. “You know me, honey, if there’s a pile of trouble somewhere, I’ll find a way to step in it.”
Mabel cackled at Edna’s joke, then her laugh turned into a phlegmy smoker’s cough, and Edna turned to slap her on the back. “You’ve got to give up those cancer sticks,” she said in between slaps.
“Ahh, bite me,” wheezed Mabel. “I’m gonna die anyway.”
Ignoring the drama of the elderly women, Maggie pulled on Edna’s sleeve. “Who is that guy you were talking to? And what did you find out?” Regardless of her knack for finding trouble, Edna was good at ferreting out information and could usually be counted on to know the inside scoop.
“Do they know what happened to Jim?” Jeremy absently rubbed his tiny grandmother’s back, used to her frequent coughing fits.
Edna whipped out her notebook, holding it within inches of her nose. “Well, I haven’t had a chance to gather too much information, since we just got here and they won’t let us too close to the crime scene. I’m sure they’re dusting for prints and gathering DNA evidence. The evidence always tells the true story, you know.”
“OMG,” Maggie said, mimicking one of her son’s favorite terms. She tried to control her eyes from rolling into the back of her head as she listened to Edna’s CSI-esque interpretation of the scene. “What do you actually know?”
Edna huffed and lowered her voice. “Well, we know a man was murdered here.”
“Oh my gosh. You think? Maybe you should open your own ladies’ detective agency.”

Spring is in the Air

It is snowing outside in my locale, but it doesn’t stop me thinking about spring. One of the first things I do to get ready for the spring is start my garden seedlings. Too bad, I can’t get nature to turn off the snow and get with the spring program, but I can get a jump on gardening inside with eggshells.

1.       Save your empty egg carton to hold the eggshells.

2.       Tap the top of the shells to preserve as much of the shell to serves as a pot.

3.       Remember to rinse out the shell and let it air dry overnight.

4.       Fill it about ¾ full of potting soil.

5.       Push in one seed only. Cover lightly with soil.

6.       Moisten soil. Don’t overwater

7.       You can drape Saran wrap over it to speed up the germination process. This turns it into a tiny hot house. Place it near a window.

8.       Once the seedling is well established and the chance of frost is gone, plant it shell and all. The calcium within the shell nourishes the seedling and gradually breaks down overtime.

9.       If you live in a cold climate, plastic milk cartons serve as tiny hot houses in the garden. Cut off the bottom of the carton and place it over the plant. Keep the cap off during the day to balance out the heat.

What do you to get ready for spring?

Writer Wonderland is giving away a $20 Amazon gift card to pick out your favorite spring seeds or books of your choice. Three free books on the side bar will be awarded to three separate winners. You have to comment to win prizes.

Check out these sites. Every stop has prizes.

Florida investigative reporter, Whitney Steel, has lived in the shadow of her legendary father long enough. To prove herself she needs to find the “Big” story.

She found it.

Now it may kill her.

After Whitney receives a lead pointing to the world’s first cloned human, now a small child, she vows to unravel the truth. However, sifting through the facts proves to have dangerous results, including death threats and murder.

When Whitney is nearly killed, but is saved by undercover FBI Special Agent, Blake Neely, he refuses to let her get in the way of his own objective—at least not right away.

Caught in a lethal game between a billionaire obsessed with genetic perfection, his hit man’s thirst for retribution, and a Colombian drug lord fresh out of prison determined to make Blake pay for his twin brother’s death over a decade ago…

Can they save an innocent child before it’s too late?

Faced with tough choices, with deadly consequences for many—Whitney soon realizes that sometimes a story becomes more than just a story.

Ever Talk to a Villain?

Villain Interview:  Meet Nathan Shaw From REFLECTION About the Character Billionaire biotech company owner, Nathan Shaw, will do anything, including murder-for-hire to keep his clone (a small child) concealed from outsiders. The child is more than an illegal experiment, she’s a genetic copy of his deceased lover.

Kim Talks to Nathan Shaw What one word best describes you?

Nathan: “Distinct.“

What are you passionate about these days?

Nathan: “What I have been passionate about most of my life. Genetics and cloning. I do not understand why people recoil at the idea of human copies—healthy manufactured humans.“

You were one of the first companies to clone animals almost thirty years ago. Would you consider cloning humans?

Nathan: “Of course if it was legal in this country. Hopefully, it will be one day.“

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

Nathan: “I was Las Vegas Man of the Year six years running and made the cover of Time magazine, twice.“

You just won a huge lottery what is the first thing you’d buy?

Nathan: (Glances at the wall clock) “Apparently, you haven’t done any background on me. If Miss Steel was conducting this interview, at least she would have done her homework first. I own ShawBioGen, a seventy-five billion dollar Biotech company. The last thing I need is money.”

Who should play you in a film?

Nathan: “John Malkovich. Brilliant actor. I heard he gave a stellar performance portraying serial killer, Jack Unterweger, on stage in Vienna.“

Who is your favorite author?

Nathan: “Elmore Leonard. I enjoy his realism writing style.“

Do you play any sports?

Nathan: “No, I run a couple miles daily to keep in shape.“

What would we find under your bed?

Nathan: (Glances at the clock again) “If you are going to continue with this silly line of questioning, we are done here.”

Ok, then…what is something you want people to know about you?

Nathan: That I have done a lot of good in my life. I’ve donated millions of dollars a year to food banks and homeless shelters around the country and will continue to do so. I’ve also put millions into healthcare and scientific research.“

Tell us about your greatest achievement.

Nathan: “There have been so many but I can’t discuss my greatest at this point. Instead I will say…developing medications that cure diseases and improve lives. In particular, genetic illnesses and recessive disorders that devastate families. Apparently, you didn’t read my company’s press kit. You really do remind me so much of the lovely, Miss Steel.”

What was the scariest moment of your life?

Nathan: “When my sister died of Menkes Syndrome, a dreadful disorder that affects copper levels in the body, leading to copper deficiency and extensive neuro-degeneration of the brain and eventual death. Like most children with Menkes, they die within the first decade of life, usually infancy, as Katherine did. She’s the reason I began my research work into genetic disorders.“

Is there a piece of advice that you have received that has really stuck with you? If so, what was it?

Nathan: “The first rule of business. Employees are replaceable.”

If you could apologize to someone in your past, what would you say?

Nathan: I don’t apologize. I have nothing to apologize for. I do, however, have a message for FBI agent, Blake Neely, and the lovely, Miss Steel.”

And what’s that?

Nathan: “Don’t get too comfortable…you are replaceable.”

That sounds like a threat.

Nathan: (Smiles)

Meet Author V.L. Locey

2/20/2014

Author Locey gives us a taste of her latest erotic sports romance.

Thank you Morgan for having me here!

There are few things more enjoyable than sitting down with friends. I got to do just that recently with the stars of my erotic sports romance, Pink Pucks & Power Plays, the first book in the To Love a Wildcat series. Given that Alain has a rather severe dislike of the press and/or interviews, I wasn`t sure he would agree, but my gal Viv finagled the handsome young D-man into meeting me.

We arranged for the interview to take place at The Black Boar Bar & Grill, a popular eatery and sports bar a few blocks from The Houseman Arena where the Philadelphia Wildcats play. Alain is one of several `Cats who own a share of the trendy meeting place. I picked the table by the small stage in the large dining area. Rumor has it Philly sports stars perform here on occasion, but I`ve yet to see it. Maybe someday I`ll catch a performance by a Wildcat or two.

Picture
The hot spot was rather quiet, as it was after the lunch crush. There were televisions filling every available inch of wall space that wasn`t covered with sports memorabilia. As a friendly young waiter dressed as a referee delivered my decaf, I saw the couple arriving.

"Alain!" the few lingering patrons shouted as if we were at Cheers. Lessard smiled at his fans, slapping backs as well as shaking hands as he followed Viviana to the table. I smiled at the woman. She was, as she always is, vibrant. Her clothes were sexy, colorful and playful, accenting her legs and her breasts, for she knows how much her lover admires them. Viv and I bussed cheeks. We`re the same height and possess the same curvy form so seem to feel an affinity for each other. Alain enveloped me in a brotherly hug. My eyes grew wide. I peeked at Viviana. She smiled. Alain released me to pull the chair out for his lady love.

"Thank you for doing this, Alain," I said as he hurried to push my chair in for me.

"It is my pleasure," the Quebecer said as he dropped his well made frame into his seat. I could easily see what Viv saw in Alain. Six foot two, one hundred and ninety pounds, black curly hair, hazel eyes, athletic build, and a mouth that begs to be kissed. I`d be drawn like a moth to a flame as well! "This is not like a regular interview."

"See, not all interviews are bad," the sassy brunette said as she ran her eyes over the menu. Alain rolled those pretty hazel eyes playfully. His hand rested on the back of Viviana`s chair possessively. "Let`s get a fish dinner then split it." Viviana looked at me with eyes the color of white grapes. Her eyes always amaze me. I nodded at the suggestion. After the order was placed and Viv and Alain`s drinks were brought out, we started chatting.

"So, how does it feel to be the stars of your own book?" I asked the couple.

"I`m tickled to be the first of the Wildcats women`s story that you told," Viviana said then sipped at her raspberry flavored water.

"It is very nice," Alain answered tactfully.

"He`s not always so tight-fisted with his words," Viviana pointed out as our appetizers arrived.

"Oh, I`m well aware of how he can talk once he`s comfortable," I replied with a wink for the hockey star. His mouth curled into a shy smile. "Although you do seem to have the lion`s share of the dialog in the book, Viv."

"Yes, see, chaton, I don`t talk much because you are doing all the talking for us both," Alain joked. "I cannot fit the words in edge like."

"Oh pooh on both of you." Viviana dipped a mozzarella stick into some red sauce then offered the first bite to Alain, her left hand cupped under the dripping stick. "It`s hot," she warned. Probably so he didn`t burn those lips of his she is so keen on kissing.

"Speaking of sex," I said as I dipped my own stick. Both my characters eyes widened with surprise. "Were you two pleased with the amount of it in your book?"

"Is there such a thing as too much sex?" Viviana asked with a impish gleam in her eye.

"It was very nice," Alain responded. I suspected that was his stock reply whenever he felt the matter was too personal to discuss. It was better than being told it was none of my business.

"The sex was wonderful," Viv interjected as she fed Alain the rest of the cheese stick. "I do love a juicy read, and this story certainly is that!"

"But there was more than the sex, no?" Alain said after dabbing sauce off his mouth with his napkin."The sex, it was great, but the lesson my Viviana learned, that was big importance too, was it not?"

I looked pointedly at the woman trying to decide which mozzarella stick to chose for herself. "Was it, Viviana?" I asked directly. Her eyes flicked to me then returned to the basket holding our appetizers. The patrons hooted at an old replay of a Stanley Cup game on one of the TV sets.

"Can we talk about the sex instead?" Viv inquired.

"No, we are talking about all the book, not just the steamy sex scenes," Alain hurried to say. I leaned back into my seat, nibbling the scalding hot stick carefully, my napkin held under my chin. "So, did you learn a lesson, Viviana?"

"Yes, I learned a lesson! Does that make you both happy?! For goodness sake, one would think I was Dr. Doom or something!" she huffed as she made a grab for a stick in the bright red plastic basket. Alain grabbed her hand, raised it to his lips and then laid it on the table beside Viviana`s plate. Then he chose a stick to feed her. I shifted around in my chair, suddenly quite uncomfortable. It felt as if I were watching the lovers in their bedroom. I smiled at a man eating his lunch behind us.

"What did you learn?" I asked when the sensual stick feeding was over with. "And for the record, we all adore you Viviana," I added, for it was the truth. Sure, Viv could be rather brusque at times, but her heart was most generally in the right place.

"I learned that we should talk about one of the other ladies in the series. Let`s chat about the rest of the books! I`m sure your readers would like to know a bit about those instead of hearing more about the poor choices silly old me has made."

I let her have that victory. She was far too clever to wrangle into such a private confession. She had been a reporter after all. Viviana Land had lots of pride, and chutzpah. I didn`t wish to push either her or Alain too far.

"Alright, let me see. The next book will be A Most Unlikely Countess."

"Look at that dreamy look," Alain teased. I felt the heat creeping into my face. "Ah poor V. L., she does so love goalies."

"Okay, yes, I do have a thing for goalies. Everyone knows that." I hurried to grab my coffee to hide behind. Viviana patted my arm while laughing at my discomfort.

"It`s fine, " Viv assured me. "A woman would have to be dead and buried not to be swept off her feet by Veikko Aho. He is perhaps one of the most classically handsome men I have ever laid eyes on."

"Ahem!" We both looked at Alain with his arms now folded over a tee that read 'Old Time Hockey' and featured the Hanson Brothers from the movie, Slapshot.

"Aside from you of course, darling." Viviana patted his muscular bicep.

I hurried to carry on lest more male ego was trampled. "After A Most Unlikely Countess will be O Captain! My Captain!, Reality Check, and Language of Love. I`m also toying with a few ideas for other Wildcat books, but we`ll see how things hatch with the planned five before I count chickens."

"I for one hope they do well. If women knew just how sexy hockey players are, they`d flock to grab those books." Viviana leaned back to give the server room to place her half a fish dinner. My mouth watered when my plate of flaky flounder, thick steak fries, and a side of coleslaw was set in front of me. Alain was eating rare steak with a fat baked potato that was topped with sour cream and chives. I guess the players get tired of chicken.

"I can`t argue that point," I said then waggled an eyebrow. Alain smiled self-consciously.

"He does humble well," Viviana whispered as she passed the ketchup bottle to me. The meal progressed pleasantly. We chatted about small things. Alain seemed to relax completely by the time dessert was brought out. We each had a small dish of ice cream. Mine was vanilla, Alain`s fudge ripple, and Viviana`s black raspberry.

"So, can I ask a question?" Alain said as we enjoyed our frozen treats. I nodded. "How do the Wildcats do in our quest for Lord Stanley`s cup?"

"Oh no you don`t!" I shook my spoon at the charmer, "You`re not wheedling that information out of me. No way and no how!"

"I could send a certain goalie over to persuade that information out of you," he teased, his hazel eyes sparkling with mischief. I stared at him over the table. Viviana slapped his arm.

"Would you stop tormenting the poor woman so! If you wish to know if the `Cats win it all, or if any of our friends find love, buy the books."

"But Viviana, how do I find time to read when I am working to keep you happy?" Alain asked with utmost sincerity.

"Oh, he`s good," I muttered under my breath.

"Yes he is," Viviana purred, leaning over to steal a kiss from her Wildcat. It didn`t take the couple long to finish their ice cream, snap up the check, and wave goodbye. I sat back with a contented smile. One Wildcat happy ever after, four more to go!

About-the-Book

In the rubble-strewn wasteland of Alphabet City, a squalid tenement conceals a treasure "beyond all imagining"-- an immaculately preserved, fifth century codex. The sole repository of ancient Hermetic lore, it contains the alchemical rituals for transforming thought into substance, transmuting matter at will...and attaining eternal life.
When Rose, a sex and pain addicted East Village tattoo artist has a torrid encounter with Martin, a battle-hardened loner, they discover they are unwitting pawns on opposing sides of a battle that has shaped the course of human history. At the center of the conflict is Paul, the villainous overlord of an underground feudal society, who guards the book's occult secrets in preparation for the fulfillment of an apocalyptic prophecy.
The action is relentless as Rose and Martin fight to escape Paul's clutches and Martin's destiny as the chosen recipient of Paul's sinister legacy.  Science and magic, mythology and technology converge in a monumental battle where the stakes couldn't be higher: control of the ultimate power in the universe--the Maelstrom.
The Book of Paul is the first of seven volumes in a sweeping mythological narrative tracing the mystical connections between Hermes Trismegistus in ancient Egypt, Sophia, the female counterpart of Christ, and the Celtic druids of Clan Kelly.

With production values matching that of a movie, the Book of Paul Trailer is as epic as the book!

What Teaching Kindergarten Taught Me

What Teaching Kindergarten Taught Me

Robert Fulgham’s book   All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten inspired millions. It also supported the belief that kindergarten is a soft, warm, fuzzy place. As a former high school teacher, I thought subbing in kindergarten would be easy.  There was a reason why these positions were the hardest to fill. If I were in the building subbing for someone else, the principal would find me before I put my purse down to fill a kindergarten slot. Here is what subbing in kindergarten taught me.

 1.       If there is a classroom aide, she’ll always be absent the day you sub.

2.       It’s all about crowd control. Often the teacher is the equivalent of the musclebound security team, except there’s only one of her and she does not get to kick children out of the class for rowdy behavior.

3.       Herding cats is similar to getting kindergarteners from point A to point B.

4.       Some teachers leave behind beautiful detailed lesson plans, others don’t. This resulted in me trying to get kids who couldn’t count to ten to count by 3’s & 5’s. It never occurred to me that math was simply coloring in blocks until one boy explained it to me.

5.       Some kids will adore you simply because you walked through the door. The flipside is an equal number of children will regard you as the devil.

6.       The children also know where the regular teacher hides everything including candy and Band-Aids.

7.       While some kids lie with a perfectly straight face, other children will tattle on them.

8.       Uneven numbers do not work well in work or play. When a third child joins a group, often there is great resistance.

9.       While change is inevitable, kindergarteners resist it.

10.   Whenever you sub, there will be an assembly, fire drill, schedule change or the lights will go out.

11.   Being line leader is all. If a teacher didn’t leave specific instructions, kids will run, shove, and even lie to be the line leader.

12.   Who a child is going to be is apparent in kindergarten. There are leaders, followers, creative thinkers, bullies and victims.

13.   Kindergarteners believe something is good if you put enough enthusiasm in your voice and tell them it is good. (Adults fall prey to this in commercials.)

14.   “I don’t want to” or “I don’t like it” appear to be acceptable reason not to do assignments.

15.   The average five year old has a fifteen-second attention span even if bribed with candy.

16.   Children have no personal boundaries. They’ll often climb into your lap, give spontaneous hugs, and stroke your hair.

17.   While some children happily color the cow purple, others want to be told what the right color is.

18.   Children get more attention by imaginary illnesses than good behavior.

19.   Bad behavior results in more attention from the teacher. Kids, who kick or pull hair, get to walk by the teacher holding her hand for the safety of all the other children.

20.   Zippers are difficult for little hands. Imagine having to zip up twenty coats before you can go outside.

21.   All kindergarten classrooms should have several tissue boxes. Murphy’s Law designates there will be one tissue box with two tissues left in it the day you sub.

22.   Girls whine, tattle and cry to get their way. Oddly, boys tend to avoid whining and crying, but they are not above tattling.

23.   If you make return appearances to the school, you are treated like a visiting celebrity, as long as you’re subbing in another room.

24.   Children cherish routine. Do something out of order and they’ll let you know. A few will even go into meltdown because you didn’t get in line by birthday months.

What this has taught me is to be appreciative to the brave souls who teach kindergarten, better yet to applaud them. I can see a kindergarten teacher as a future heroine.

Been there. Done that.

Feisty and independent, Anya Davies lives by her own rules. The one thing she’s hell-bent on avoiding is a conventional relationship. Nor is she interested in romance, thanks to her abusive ex who refuses to stay in the past. The second complication in her life is a secret that condemns her to constant guilt and a solitary life. A series of near misses and escalating threats are a third and worrying factor. Only a special man would understand or live with Anya’s challenges and demands.

Casual sex...so not having that.

Enter Christophe Mondesir. Two years ago, Anya dumped him without explanation. An accidental meeting shoots Anya back on Christophe’s radar. He refuses to be denied and plans to breach the fortress Anya has built around her heart—if she’ll commit to more than a casual liaison. He’s also determined to find out what she’s hiding. That’s if the stalker who’s after Anya doesn’t end her life first.

He stood before her, pressing kisses to her neck. Then his lips covered hers. Soft. Persuasive.

She resisted him at first, but the memory of his lovemaking warmed her blood and she relaxed against him. The unknown word he’d spoken came to mind and she twisted away from him. “I’m not so sure I should let you touch me, ’specially since I don’t know what you said earlier. What was that anyhow?”

“I said you should stop talking like a slut.”

She mashed his toes with her foot. “How dare you talk to me like that?”

“Ouch! If you insist on treating sex as if it is some sort of pill—”

“If you were sensitive to my needs, I wouldn’t have to resort to asking for sex.”
He narrowed his eyes. “You know what? I’m going to give you what you want.”

That said, Christophe pressed his lips to hers, forcing her mouth open. She fought him, but this time he ignored her attempts to escape.

The intensity of his kiss frightened her. His grip on her arms was too tight and she felt suffocated by his strength. “No, Christophe, I—”

His hand glided under her shirt and the words lodged in her throat. She cast aside her objections, swept away by the fire his touch lit on her insides.

They landed on her bed, struggling to free themselves of their clothing. Minutes later, Christophe reduced her to an orgasmic shudder.

Then they started over.

When they were satisfied, she panted against his chest.

Christophe eased away from her and rolled onto his back to stare into a corner of the room.

Now what was wrong with him? She raised herself up on her elbow. “What’s bugging you now?”

It took him a while to look her in the eyes. “D’you realize I just raped you?”

She almost giggled. “Well, it was the best rape I ever had.”

He sighed. “I’m serious. You said no, and I didn’t listen.”

He murmured something she didn’t hear and rolled onto his side, away from her.

Anya stared at a mole on his shoulder, unable to believe what she was seeing and hearing. Was he serious? Wasn’t she supposed to be the basket case?

She scratched at the skin around the cast. It was itching like hell lately.

Christophe got up and went into the bathroom. The toilet flushed and she waited for him to come back to bed. Instead, he got a pair of jeans from the cupboard and pulled them on, along with a tee-shirt.

Anya gaped at him. “Where the hell d’you think you’re going?”

“Home. I need to think.”

“What d’you need to think about, Christophe?”

“Things.”

She yanked her shirt on and stood in front of him. “Every time I get mad and tell you to leave, you refuse to go. Now, we don’t even have a serious quarrel and you’re running away. What’s wrong with you?”

He slipped both hands in his pockets and wouldn’t look at her. “I have to go.”

Using her hand, she tipped his head so she could see his eyes.

He was in pain.

She didn’t understand what the problem was, but something had gone terribly wrong. She grabbed his arms and spoke softly to him. “Don’t walk out on me now. I don’t know what’s going on with you, or what you think you did, but I need you.”

“I’m sorry, Anya.” He stepped out of her grasp and walked away.

She sank on the bed, rubbing the frown line on her forehead. Would he be all right? Her heart rate went up and she pressed a hand to her chest. Christophe had left, but she needed to check whether he’d locked up.

The lock was engaged and she was alone in the house. She leaned against the front door, feeling as if she’d bought a bus ticket and the driver had dropped her off miles away from her destination.

Her eyes smarted, but she would not cry. While she was sure Christophe’s withdrawal was directly related to her, she sensed there were other factors at play.
If he didn’t want to talk, how could she get to the root of what was eating him?

EXCERPT

She held her shoes in her hand, as she gingerly stepped into the rowboat. The unsteady boat caused her to catch her breath more than a few times as she eased into a seating position on the bench seat. All right, she’d got into the boat without tipping it over. Pleased with her accomplishment, she rested back on her arms and looked at the rope securing the boat to the dock. Obviously, she’d need to lose the rope from the hook. Too bad, she hadn’t considered unhooking the rope as she scampered onto the boat. Doing it now would mean more swaying and the possibility of ending up in the lake, not something she wanted.

Staying in her position, she considered how much she wanted the boat to move as opposed to how much she didn’t want to wear lake water. A glance up at the dock showed a man walking toward her, just like her dream. She’d have to warn him to untie the boat first. Her breath caught in her throat. The urge to close her eyes tempted her. She wanted it to be Tony, but if it wasn’t she’d just look foolish sitting in a rowboat with her eyes closed. Where was the fog from her dream?

Logically, she knew fog would have burned off by afternoon. Part of her urged her to leave now, go, before she could be disappointed, or worse yet, screw things up. The man drew close enough for her to take in the details of his white shirt and light colored pants, the same as in her dream. Propelling herself out of the boat now would end up with her going head first into the water. In her effort to flee, she’d have to run past him.

Even though she vowed not to, she closed her eyes for just a second to gather her courage. Calmness settled over her, and she could hear Nonna’s voice. “Live your life, Nina. Live with passion. Don’t turn away from the good things. Have faith in me. This is a very good thing coming toward you.”

A laugh bubbled up out of her at the words. They were so Nonna Caprice. Her eyelids flickered open, and he stood above her, gazing down at her with a playful grin. He squatted on one leg, placing one foot in the boat. It didn’t rock as much with him or maybe he knew how to get into a boat. Shifting his weight, he eased the second foot in. Once in the boat, he flexed his knees lowering his center of balance and picked the knot free. She would have to remember to do that.

The rope dropped backed into the boat allowing the boat to drift a bit. Up until then, he said nothing. He sat on the bench seat facing her and put his hands on the oars. His legs spread wide took up the maximum amount of space. Nina accommodated him by placing her legs into the open V. It seemed right as opposed to being intimidating.

“I figured this might be my best bet to talk to you since you always disappear on me.” The oars dipped into the water propelling the boat into a glide across the water.

“It has merit. I’m glad you waited until you were in the boat to untie it.” She ran her fingers through her hair grooming it, making sure no tangles had developed during her search, not like untying it first as in her dream.

He angled his body toward hers, stopping the oars for a moment, but keeping his hands on them. “You dreamed about the boat too?”

His gaze held hers, sincere, mesmerizing. How did she miss those glorious eyes on her way out of the grocery store? Oh yeah, it was a reaction due to too much ginger. “I did, but there was a fog.”

“Yes, the fog.” He nodded and put his back into the rowing, moving the boat away from any neighboring crafts. He reached the middle of the lake and stopping. “I have really tried to meet you, but all my efforts failed miserably.”

“Hard to imagine you were trying to meet me.” She touched his calf with her bare foot. This pleased her more than words could describe. This meeting was no random card trick of a fortuneteller.

The oars rested in the locks, allowing the boat to drift a little with the current. Tony touched his neck. “Um, me climbing in the boat and taking off didn’t scare you, did it? You didn’t think ‘here comes this crazy guy I don’t know’?”

Using the side of her foot, she tapped his leg to get him to stop. “Please, no more. I knew you were supposed to get into the boat, just like I knew I had nothing to fear from you.”

“Really?” His posture straightened as his right hand came up to touch his neck. “How is that?”

Fantastic. How could she explain this without sounding nutty? Biting her bottom lip, she wondered what she could say without mentioning soul mate or the fortuneteller or the seven chances. The desire to count their meetings almost overwhelmed her senses to stay in the moment. Perhaps that’s why his soft kiss on her lips surprised her.

Morgan K Wyatt, raised on a steady diet of superheroes, believed she could fly at a very young age. After using trees, barn lofts, sliding boards, and even a second story window as launch pads, she found her flying skills were limited to fast and downward. By the age of nine, her dreams to be a superhero needed some modifications, which caused her to turn to writing and horseback riding as alternatives to flying.

At the age of twenty, she had another chance at superhero greatness as being one of the few female soldiers trained for combat. The fact that women will be able to serve in combat soon indicates that all the witnesses to the grenade incident have retired. The grenade incident didn’t prevent her two sons or daughter-in-law from enlisting in the service. Having different last names probably helped.

Morgan recently retired from teaching special needs students to write fulltime, instead of in the wee hours of the night. With the help of her helpful husband and loyal hound, she creates characters who often grab plot lines and run with them. As for flying, she prefers the airlines now.

ABOUT CLOAKED in FUR

Urban Fantasy with Strong Romance.

As a moonwulf, Daciana never expected to fall in love with a human. Hell, she never imagined that she’d abandon her pack, endanger everyone around her, and break the worst rule possible. But she did.

A rogue werewolf is killing Daciana’s friends, and she sets on capturing the creature. She’ll do whatever it takes to stop the beast. The police and her boyfriend, Inspector Connell Lonescu, are starting to question her involvement in the murders, which is endangering the pack’s secret existence. But when the pack alpha kidnaps Connell, revealing the awful truth about the creature and its connection to the pack, Daciana must choose between saving the man she loves and saving her pack family from certain death.

EXCERPT:

My emotions tore between apologizing and confessing everything, yet all I managed to do was stare at his bare torso.

“Your institute has been issued passes to travel into the woods, and Vasile has yours. I can give you a lift there.” Connell cleared his throat and took my cup to the sink. “You’re awfully quiet.”

Heat exploded across my skin, and I climbed to my feet. “My mind is a swirl of thoughts, but I can’t pin any of it down. I’m devastated that my neighbor is dead, the police suspect me, and even worse, I feel you slipping away from me. So, what am I supposed to say?”

Instead of collecting me into his embrace and kissing me, Connell stood there like one of those God statues in museums that wore almost nothing, but were sculptured to perfection. I wanted to forget everything the day was about to bring and beg Connell to make love to me until I passed out.

*****REVIEW*****
Do you like strong female characters, mysterious deaths and a strong twist of paranormal?  Then you have a great deal in common with Daciana, the protagonist of Cloaked in Fur. Daciana is an animal expert and is sometimes called into identify the animal behind gruesome attacks. The problem is the latest series of killings have all the hallmarks of being wolf-related. Major issue because she’s a Wulfkin and her involvement may endanger her pack.

Daciana is desperate to find who is behind the killings to guard her pack and protect her growing attraction to a human detective. Unfortunately, he suspects she might be behind the killing. Talk about putting a crimp in her love life.

This is a tightly written tale that kept me up past my bedtime, rubbing the sleep from my eyes to keep reading. Daciana is a strong female character who wants to protect her pack, herself and her burgeoning romantic relationship. It feels hopeless. How can a Wulfkin do what a human can’t? You’ll have to read Cloaked in Fur to find out. I highly recommend this riveting paranormal.

SSLY New Year's Eve Blog Hop & Giveaway

12/31/2013

Start the New Year out right with $150 Amazon/BN Gift card, books, Tarot reading and Godiva Chocolate. We got you covered here.

NYEBH Banner
PictureThis is who you want to see at your door. Find out why?
On New Year’s Eve is about saying goodbye to the old year’s triumphs and disappointments. New Year’s Day is about starting the year fresh. Many believe what you do on January 1st sets the tone for the year. I clean and organize. It is usually the day the decorations come down too.

My goal is to be more organized this year with a system of calendars, daily journal, and a Google calendar that sends my phone reminders.  Tell me one resolution to be entered into the site giveaway, which is chocolate and books. You can pick any book you want from the sidebar. It will come bearing Godiva chocolate too. International winners (outside the US) get two eBooks.

Who Comes Through Your Front Door Matters

An old custom was whoever came through door after the stroke of midnight on December 31st determined your luck for the year. A good year would result if a dark haired, good-looking man bearing gifts arrived first at your front door.

A blond or red-haired man would diminish your luck, while women would bring you bad luck if they came through your door first.

Often people would pay particularly handsome dark haired men to come to their doors, even giving them gifts to bring. As for the rest, they must have had to come to the back door or through the garage.

My hope is good luck finds you in 2014. Remember you can make your own luck. Remember to enter both giveaways too. Use the Rafflecoptor for the grand prize and comment on the sites for blog only giveaways. Have a great 2014. The best is yet to come.

Visit the sites  below for more chances to win Don't forget to enter via the Rafflecoptor link below. Many sites also have additional giveways too.
