BLURB:
Two friends...
Blood sisters till the end...
Until they're not.

One cold night in a boarding school dorm, two fourteen-year-old girls make a blood sister pact. Friends forever. As young schoolgirls, they're determined to find true love, learning the hits and misses along the way. As graduation nears, the girls have different outlooks for the future. Lucinda longs for adventure. Anna chooses city life and marriage. Finding their way back together, the girls head west for an experience of a lifetime until a handsome cowboy bursts into their lives, changing the course of their friendship forever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“It’s perfect.” Anna’s jaw dropped. “The whole outfit.” She pointed from the top of Lucinda’s head down to her cream Mary Jane shoes. “This is definitely the year we find you a boy.”
“Oh, no. I like to play the field.” Lucinda stuck out her tongue, looped her arm through Anna’s and marched her out the door.
 “If I’m not mistaken, you had your eye on someone last year. Let’s make a blood sister pact for the year. You’re going to meet him, this mystery man. Remember, we promised to help each other make our dreams come true.” Anna wasn’t giving up. She knew Lucinda very well and wouldn’t be fooled by the distractions.
 “And who is my mystery man?” Lucinda pretended she had no idea. She gave no clue to his identity last year, and Anna was determined to find out.
 “Well, from what I gathered last year, his name might be Gerald?” Anna decided to test Lucinda and watch for a reaction. “Peter?” Her face remained blank. “Roy?” A slight twitch at the corners of Lucinda’s mouth gave her away. “It’s Roy. I knew we went to the library a lot more than necessary. He worked there shelving books, didn’t he?”
 “You got me!” Lucinda held her hands up in defeat. “It’s hard to meet boys when we’re at one school and they’re at another, even though we’re all on one campus. A girl’s gotta do, what a girl’s gotta do. Remember that, Anna. It’s our blood sister saying like a secret handshake.”
BLURB:
Rena stands tethered to a post high on a mountain, awaiting the dragon, praying her death will be painless and quick. Although she is meant as a sacrificial virgin, she soon discovers death will not be her fate. Powerful and seductive, the shape-shifting dragon, Marcos, has something far more erotic planned for her. She will fulfill his dark appetites and come to accept her own submissive nature without shame. At the dragon's instruction, the virgin will explore needs and desires beyond imagination and Rena’s commanding lover will teach her just how wicked she can be.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:

A flurry of dust and debris accompanied the creature’s landing. Rena turned her face away. It suddenly became difficult to breathe. Her resolve waivered and she took a step back, forgetting there was nowhere to go. The wood post bit into her flesh through the thin sheath she wore. Rena sucked in her breath and held it, awaiting the painful rip of talons as they shredded her flesh and swept her broken body into the night.

Terror mounted with every passing second. How much would she feel? Rena prayed she’d die with the first stroke, and not be forced to endure the creature’s entire devouring of her.

As Rena exhaled, simply because she could not hold her breath a second longer, the feather light caress of a man’s hand on her cheek shocked her…

Do you write about what turns you on?

As in, what I am passionate about? I have running, nature, kids, challenges, reading… in my writing. But I don’t write about them, per se, as much as I weave them in. I guess I am rather passionate about raising my children well and the books are, to some extent, an expression of that.

Do you listen to music when you're writing?

Absolutely. It helps drown out the world. I queue up a Pandora station—depends on the mood I want to hit in the writing—and go. I find that vocals are OK to listen to when the words are really flowing, but if I am struggling at all, I have to listen to classical. Otherwise I just end up listening to the lyrics.

Can you describe your dream home?

I’ve always thought a Spanish-style home with an interior patio would be great. Maybe with a good-sized, corner office/studio for me to work in. I like having a space for everything, so there would be a space for a small dojo/dance room, a space with exercise equipment, a family zone, a nice sitting area, big, open kitchen (we spend a lot of time in the kitchen). Space to move around, but not too much to not be able to hear each other shouting. I would like a decent sized yard. Maybe a half-acre. Enough so the neighbor’s barking dog won’t drive me too crazy. And close to good running trails. I like the CA coast a lot, but I am afraid living there would ruin the joy.

What is the first curse word that comes to mind?  How often and why do you use it?

Shit. Usually converted to “Oh-shin.” Ocean. Kids…

How would you spend ten thousand bucks?

Paying off my debts getting my books published! And then I’d take my wife and kids to Hawaii.

What are 5 things within touching distance?

Keyboard, pen and paper, glass of water, weekly planner, lamp.

Do you have a crush on anyone?

My wife.

BLURB:
Something strange, something magical, is going on in the dusty hills behind the small town of Villaloma. Yet each time Linda Peters puts on her running shoes and sets out to find the enchanted kingdom she imagines—full of dancing elves, unicorns, and more—something stops her. And with school starting soon, she only has a few more chances to really search the hills.

While Linda’s frustration and doubt grow, her cousin, Nugu, looks for answers in his books and wonders if maybe, just maybe, Linda’s stories are for real.

 The day finally arrives when Linda can run far, the day she is sure she will find her magic city. But when she and Nugu feel their goal must lie just beyond the next hill, they only find more hill.

 Is it all a figment of an over-active imagination; a wistful fantasy?

Or is there truly something magical in those hills that only the strong of heart—and leg—can discover?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
Excerpts from Elf Hills © 2014 by S. S. Dudley
From the Prologue:
This fairy tale, as you might have guessed already, takes place on a hill. Or, rather, on many hills and a mountain or two in Northern California, near what people call the Great Valley. One hill in particular stands out, though, because that is where everything started. It was a nice hill; well rounded, not too high, not too low. It was distinctly a hill, snuggled up against a mountain like a nursing cub to its resting mother. For the most part this hill was well-dressed with dark green oak trees and tall grasses, usually yellowed and dry except for the four or five wet months of the year. Along one side, a seasonal creek slipped out and down into the plain. Here the vegetation—red-stemmed manzanita, prickly blackberry bushes, and other shrubs—was thick and difficult to move through.
From afar, the hill was not remarkable; it had many siblings stretching to the north and south as far as the eye could see. This hill was special, though. For one, a strange—some said magical—copse of trees stood near the base of the hill where the creek emerged. These trees were short, had long, dark-green leaves, and bore bright yellow fruit that, if eaten, were said to imbue a person with the strength of ten men. For another, the hill was haunted. On certain nights of the year a white light would shine from the very top of the hill. It was brighter than the brightest star; brighter even than a full moon, perhaps, and it cast long shadows across the plain. The first people that lived in the area told many stories about that hill, the light, and the spirits that lived there.
Determined to escape her traumatic past, Ember is finally headed for solid ground, gathering strength and balance with the help of her trusted counselor and friend, Xander Kane.
 Still reeling from the death of her brother, Ember finds solace when Manchester Marauders center, Owen Killion goes on the offensive and barrels into her life. EXCERPTS
Stay awake. Stay alert.
 Slowly lifting her teacup to her lips, her hand shook, sloshing liquid against her bandaged hand. The sides of her mouth stung when she opened her lips even the slightest bit, but she needed the calming warmth of Earl Grey.
 Her greatest wish was to be alone, but yet, she hated the loneliness. Hated monsters waiting and watching from dark shadows. And Owen wouldn’t leave her. He’d remained by her side through his mother and sister’s fussing.
 How did he truly feel about this mashed-up world she’d opened? What did he see in a pitiful girl, beaten and bruised? Ember refused to look in a mirror, viewing the results of her living nightmare would most likely push her past some breaking point—not that she wasn’t already broken. Or was she? How would she pick up the scattered pieces this time? Find sanity once more? Break past this stifling anxiety, this inability to actually breathe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
Chapter One

Charleston, SC

August, 1861

By midnight at Hibernian Hall Clara had danced six dances. Joseph Gibbs had tripped on the hem of her skirt, bless his heart, and ended up on his knees as if seeking divine intervention for just one night of social grace. Leland Montague had simply atrocious breath; evidently he had an unseen rotting tooth, making her continuously look the other way for a breath of fresh air. Walter Wragg didn’t speak a word during the entire dance, blushing profusely when she so much as looked him directly in the eye. Albert Tradd held her entirely too close, causing her father to intervene and have a few choice words with the young dandy on the balcony. Ashby Calhoun, her last dance partner, had bragged incessantly of his family’s wealth, his travels abroad, and what a great catch he would be for any of Charleston’s Southern belles.

 Her coming out ball certainly was not turning out as planned.

 Clara shuddered at the mere thought of being trapped in a loveless marriage with the offerings thus far. Spinsterhood had never looked more tempting.
