Tell us about yourself:
My best friend calls me “her Fairy Godmother,” but I feel more like Cinderella. After over twenty-five years of living a typical life, I now live my dreams and I create them too.

Nothing is better than creating a brand new world from a blank piece of paper. Breathing life into characters and watching their stories unfold—I am truly blessed.

I live in on eight acres in middle Tennessee with my husband, my dad, one of my three children, two dogs and three cats.  I am privileged to have two precious grandsons.

When I’m not on my computer or reading my kindle, you’ll usually find me in the kitchen. I love to cook! If I’m not there, I’m on the fields, watching my grandsons’ soccer or baseball games.

It’s never too late to chase your dreams. I’m proof you can catch them, even if arthritis slows you down. Who knows, your own Fairy Godmother may be just a dream away.

What was your first book?
Heart of a Soldier

Describe your first break.

I entered a short story writing contest. I didn’t win the contest, but I did a contract to publish the story. That was Heart of a Soldier.

What is your favorite genre to read? To write?
I love Paranormal Romance. That is mostly what I read, although I will read almost anything except historical romance (just not my thing.) As for writing, I started out with contemporary romance, but now that I have ventured into the paranormal I really love it. However, I will continue to write whatever my muse tells me I need to.

Are Happy Endings are must in your stories?

Definitely! I don’t read books without happy endings and I would never write a book without a happy ending. I read to escape real life. There are enough unhappy endings in real life.

What makes a protagonist interesting?

Personality. I like a protagonist that I would want as a best friend. The traits can be different in every book, but that’s what it comes down to.

What is the best thing about being a writer?

There are so many wonderful things about being a writer, but the absolute best is sharing my stories with someone else. Nothing is better than hearing from a reader that they loved what I wrote, or it touched them in some way. I can’t tell you how many reviews have made me cry (in a good way.)

What is the worst thing?

I truly can’t think of anything bad about writing. I love it all.

Pantser or plotter?

Mostly a pantser, I have a general plot, but I just start at the beginning and write. I don’t outline and do scene by scene or any of that.

What do you see the direction of your future writing taking? What can we expect next? Give us a little taste.

There are 5 books planned in the Animal in Me series, so 3 more on the horizon. I am also working on a Military romance called Changing Tides. What’s after that? I’m not sure at the moment.

Just for fun
Cat or dog person? Both, I have 4 cats and 2 dogs

Favorite food? Lasagna

Favorite book? One book? Phantom Waltz, Catherine Anderson

Favorite movie? I Remember Mama

Favorite holiday? Christmas

Would you rather be the princess or the villain? Why? Princess, I am much too sweet to be a villain
J

Who has more fun, orcs or hobbits?
Hobbits, I think.

BLURB:
Fate brought them together. Lies keep them apart. Love could set them free. All they need is to trust in Bear Hearts.

 Fate has dealt bear shifter Martin Kruger and rotten hand. His destined mate, Dr. Elizabeth Montrose, is the enemy and suffers from a fatal illness. He‘s waited over two hundred years for a mate he might never have the chance to claim.

 Elizabeth has long ago given up dreams of love, marriage and children. Her life is her research and now that is gone in a puff of smoke, thanks to the bears of Honey Corners. A tiny spark of hope blooms in her heart when the handsome bear tells her they are mates, but will that instinctual bond be enough to overcome all that stands between them?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
Prologue- 1994
 Pale and weak, the child lay on the stark white sheets of the big bed that made her look so tiny. The khaki colored U.S. Army ball cap that rested on her head enhanced the sallow tone of her skin, but Lizzy never took that cap off. Daddy gave it to her, and she was Daddy’s girl. He said it would make her strong, like him. She needed to be strong, because she felt so weak.
Her big, brown eyes scanned the room she had been confined to for the last two weeks. Stark white walls, the same boring flower picture, she’d been staring at so long, raindrops slowly sliding down the outside of the always closed window. She was so tired. Tubes in her nose, I.V. in her arm, pain everywhere.
Where were Mommy and Daddy? One of them was usually in the chair by her bed when she woke up. It didn’t matter, she couldn’t keep her eyes open much longer anyway. She’d go back to sleep and they’d be there when she woke up. Well, if she woke up. She heard the doctor’s talking, and she knew the truth; she might die soon.
It wasn’t so bad. If she died she would live with the angels and all the pain would stop. But, Daddy kept saying she had to fight, and mommy would cry…
Two Thumbs Up For Bear Hearts
Tamara Hoffa does something no other paranormal author has done yet. She has me not only accept the bear shifter concept, but makes it believable. Not sure how she works her magic, but it does happen. Maybe she is a fairy godmother.
There is a divide between the way Liz and Martin act in everyday life and in their bear form. It reminds me of how we behave in town, and how we cut loose when we think no one knows us.  Several things separate them, but I’ll let you figure that out on your own.
This is a fun novel, although the dark moments had me gritting my teeth, not enough to put the book down. Keep reading because Ms. Hoffa not only believes in happy endings, she specializes in them.
Excerpt One:
Ruddy complexions were like skywriting, a girl in high school had told him once. The message may appear slowly, but everyone can see it for miles around and remember it for days. “I have to get back to work.” He gathered up his trash and headed for the can. When he turned around, Pepper was standing close, nose to his chin. “Tell Glenda hello.” Before he could go, she grabbed his arm.
“Harry, I really mean it. I am glad I saw...what I saw. Where did you get it again? Could I get one like it, or is that a one-of-a-kind thing?”
He told her about the encounter in the park with the homeless man. “It’s a mystery why he picked me.” He pictured the day of the handoff, the police hurrying the old guy away before he could explain himself. The police responding to his own complaint about the vagrants camping out. She was the first person he shared this with.
“You have been given much responsibility in many areas.” With that, she stood on tiptoe and pecked him on the cheek. “You have been given a gift. Thank you for sharing your magical looking-piece with me.”
“Um. You’re welcome. And thanks.” He demurred, dropping his hand from her grip. “But I don’t believe in magic.”
“A man of science and numbers, I get it.” She tipped her head sideways, considering him. “The mysteries of the universe reveal more than we see with our eyes or hear with our ears. If we slow down and really absorb what it’s trying to teach us, we might be surprised and delighted.” She poked a slender finger at his chest. “I choose to keep my mind open to the possibilities. What about you, Harry?”
Schoolteacher Connie Meyers is suddenly a young widow, her husband killed in a horrific car accident. Heartbroken to find out he had gambled away everything they had, she moves to her sister-in-law's Midwest home to rebuild her life. A trip to the local Renaissance Faire with her nieces leads to a summer job as a costumed storyteller.
Avowed bad boy and fair performer Gage Younglood is infatuated with Connie at first sight. Despite his deliberately commitment-free life, and Connie's don't-touch-me attitude, he soon has her in his arms, realizing quickly she is also in his heart.
When she is threatened by her late husband's bookie, he steps into the role of protector, his fate forever sealed with hers.
Excerpt:
“Who said anything about a relationship?” he said, standing up so he could tower over her again. “I’m just trying to have a little fun. You know, fun?”
If he’d been an animal, she was sure he’d have had hair raised on the back of his neck, he seemed so angry, and it struck her painfully. She hadn’t wanted to anger him or hurt him. She turned away from him and closed her eyes to tamp down the tears she knew would come if she let them. She crossed her arms over her chest, to hold in the pain. Being tired made her much too vulnerable.
“Yes,” she finally said. “I know about fun. Life isn’t always fun, though.”
“Princess.” His voice was soft, tender. “I won’t hurt you. It’s not in my plan.”
Despite herself, she felt the shivers of desire race down from her shoulders, down her arms and legs, and back up to that secret, soft place at her core. She bowed her head and gritted her teeth, hoping for the feeling to go away.
“And what is your plan, Gage?”
“It’s a simple plan. I want you to feel good. I want to feel good, too.”
What happens when your decisions affect an entire universe?
 Ren Argent wanted to be an archeologist and spend her life exploring the lost cities of Earth.  But when a new planet is discovered and her father is appointed King, she has to leave behind everything she knows to rule over a place she’s only heard of in legends.
 Not long after her arrival she discovers there are insurgents hiding in the darkened forests and the planet is on the brink of civil war.  It won’t be long until the Monarchy steps in to “neutralize” the threat.
 Will she be able to stop the hostile takeover?  Or will her actions ignite a rebellion across the universe?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Three:
“Why did you bring me here?” she asked.  It was against Maks’s rules, and though Ren had only known her a short time, Ren hadn’t thought Sheridan would break the rules so easily.  Yet she still brought Ren to one of the places Maks had forbidden, and didn’t even know about.

 “When one is battling a river it is best to travel with the current,” Sheridan replied, a small smirk appearing.  She knelt beside Ren and dipped her fingers into the water, swirling them around to create a line of green light.  “This place is magic; I thought you could use some magic.”

 “Magic isn’t real,” Ren said, although she enjoyed the idea of it.  She wasn’t one to shy away from the entertaining tricks, from smoke and mirrors, but she knew it was just that.  Tricks.  “There’s probably some kind of algae here to create the glow, and maybe some kind of advan—”

 “Not everything needs to be explained,” Sheridan said.  “Sometimes it just is.”

 That made Ren quiet and she kept her opinion to herself.  If the people of Novae believed in certain magics then that was fine.  She didn’t want them to force their beliefs on her, so why should she force hers on them?

 “Thanks,” she mumbled, “for bringing me here.  You know, you’re actually really sweet.”

 Sheridan blanched, her hand stopping all motion and remaining in the water.  “What?”

 “You try to hide it,” Ren said, her lips turning upwards, “and you always have those things on your back.”

 Sheridan tilted her head to glance at the weapons she was never without.  “They’re kamas,” she said before looking back at Ren.

 “But I can see it.  You act like you couldn’t care less about the world and what people think but you like Novae.”  Ren was careful with her words.  “You don’t like the Monarchy.”

 Sheridan took a deep breath.  “I don’t.  And neither do you.”

BLURB:

Witch siblings, Bram and Freya Montague, are whisked from 1698 Massachusetts into the future by their well meaning aunt after an evil warlock curses them to immortality.

 Fast forward to present-day Florida, where brother and sister have lived for over 300 years. Resenting a fate that prohibits him from ever dying has created in Bram a reputation for danger and soured him on the notion of a serious relationship. Freya, on the other hand, has been open to love throughout her many lives, but no one has stolen her heart like the man she’s been dreaming of for more than three centuries. A chance meeting with a motorcycle-riding, gun shop-owning woman and her cousin, a man who communicates with ghosts, brings with it the winds of change and has Bram and Freya emotionally battling between their desires and what they know is right. After several supernatural encounters that cannot be ignored, the Montagues face their nemesis in a final showdown that culminates in the discovery of long-hidden truths that will once again alter their lives.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
 “I’ll give you one last chance,” Garrett said, staring at Freya. “Are you going to marry me?”
 Anger rose in her like a kettle set to boil. “Snow must have drifted into your ears. I wouldn’t marry you if you were the only man in the colony. Is that clear enough?”
 His pupils grew dangerously dark, drilling holes into her. He pointed his finger. “No one tells Garrett Smythe no. Freya Montague, you will wander through the centuries hopeless with longing, forever suffering the heartbreak of loss. Everyone you love will die, but you will not have the pleasure of joining them in the afterlife. You will be left alone on this Earth to suffer in misery.” His eyes narrowed. “I curse you…to immortality!”
 For a second it felt like the world stopped moving. Then the next few moments whirled like a toy top. Garrett’s hateful flaming eyes locked with Freya’s as a bolt of lightning shot from his finger. She felt the hot pierce stab into her breast.
 A hint of nausea washed over her. Strange vibrations pummeled her, and what sounded like howling wind shrieked in her ears. A massive headache seared through her brain. Somewhere in the distance, she heard Aunt Gillian’s voice chanting.
 Mouth gaping, she glanced at her body. It felt as light as air. Then, to her horror, she saw her legs vanish, and then her arms. With a whoosh, she felt herself rocketed into a vacuum where time and space blended.
Henry Gallant Tour & Giveaway
Picture
BLURB:
 In the 22th Century, the people of the Solar System have banded together against an alien invasion. Unfortunately, they’re losing—badly.
 As the only Natural remaining in the genetically engineered officer corps of the United Planet’s fleet, Henry Gallant has unique mental abilities that have proven essential to the defense against the Titan invaders. Nevertheless his fellow officers lack faith in him, and worse, he has angered prominent men by speaking truth to power.
 Despite this, Admiral Collingsworth has given him command of the Warrior, the most advanced stealth warship in the UP arsenal, and ordered him to the alien’s main base to spy, intrigue, and disrupt their war capacity.
 Gallant’s mission leads to risky battles and painful choices, but no choice is more personal, or intimate, than the choice to face one’s own death. And for Henry Gallant—a flawed young man in a hopeless situation against overwhelming odds—a dreadful decision looms before him.
 He has only one saving grace—he is unafraid.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT
Lieutenant Henry Gallant walked along the cobblestone streets of New Annapolis—head down, mind racing . . .

My orders say take command of the Warrior immediately . . . but no promotion . . . Why not?

He pondered the possibilities, but he already knew the answer. Though he had steely gray eyes, a square jaw, and was taller than nearly everyone around him, what distinguished him most was not visible to the naked eye—he was a Natural—born without genetic engineering.

 By the time he reached the space elevator, the welcoming breeze of the clear brisk morning had brightened his mood and he fell into line behind the shipyard personnel without complaint.

 Looking up, he marveled; that cable goes into the clouds like an Indian rope trick.

 When at last it was his turn, the guard scanned his comm pin against the access manifest.

 The portal light blinked red.

 “Pardon, sir. Access denied,” said the grim faced sentry.

 “Call the officer of the guard,” demanded Gallant.

 The officer of the guard appeared, but was no more inclined to pass Gallant through. He touched the interface panel and made several more entries, but the portal continued to blink red.

 “There’s a hold on your access, sir.”

Gallant asked, “A hold?”

 “Yes, sir. Your clearance and authorization are in order, but SIA has placed a hold on your travel movements. They want you to report to SIA headquarters, ASAP.”

 “I need to go to the shipyard and attend to important business before going to the Solar Intelligence Agency,” clarified Gallant, but even as he said it, he knew it wouldn’t help.

 “Sorry, sir. Orders.”

The Time is Relative series chronicles the origin story of the mythical figure Father Time, beginning with the award winning first novel, Time is Relative for a Knight of Time. All dates and events are historically accurate. The participants... maybe not.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
Fire quickly engulfed the limestone building that locals had come to call the White House, forcing the frantic women out the large front doors and into the wide-open marshland beyond the carefully manicured grounds. The night air hit Dolley’s skin with a damp unevenness that made every hair on the back of her neck stand on end. Looking over to Hannah, she saw her own terrified expression mirrored on the young girl’s face, watching as the girl gazed out into the darkness of the tree line. There, in the light of the blazing White House, stood a man so still the trees themselves surpassed him for movement.
The dark figure walked towards them, seemingly impervious to the chaos that surrounded the nation’s capital, the shadows and light from the inferno behind them dancing across him. As he neared, they saw that he was an older man with bits of silver streaking through the black mass of hair sitting atop his slim and polished frame.  He was dressed in a dark crimson sweater vest over a pressed long-sleeved button down shirt, and what looked to be crisp and freshly tailored pantaloons.
“Good evening, Lady Madison,” said the man, pausing for a moment to bow to her before continuing in their direction. His face was expressionless, eyes mimicking the darkness of the night around him. The man was not especially scary looking, especially in his elegant dressings. Still, there was an aura to him that spoke to the survival instincts within the two women, evoking impressions of jackals – sharp teeth, claws, and minds.
The Likelihood of Lucy Tour Stop & Giveaway
5/24/2015
Picture
BLURB:
London, 1815
Trevor Bailey is on the cusp of opening the greatest hotel in London. His days as a gutter snipe are behind him, as he enjoys a life of wealth, society, and clandestine assignments as a spy in the service of His Majesty. Until one tumultuous night churns up the past he'd long left behind...
Turned out by her employer for her radical beliefs, Lucy Greenleaf reaches out to the man who was once her most beloved friend. She never expected that the once-mischievous Trevor would be so handsome and gentleman-like and neither can deny the instant attraction.
But Lucy's reformer ways pose a threat to the hotel's future and his duties as a spy. Now Trevor must choose between his new life and the woman he's always loved…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
Who was this man? He was the Trevor of her youth, yet he was not. The boy would not have touched her like that. Would not even have noticed her face long enough to bother with a dab of pudding gone awry. The boy had reserved that sort of intense scrutiny for lock picking and cake filching.

The man, by contrast, was causing her stomach to feel like little wings were fluttering inside it.

It was almost as if she wasn’t in the room, which was ridiculous because of course she was. It was her lip he caressed. But he stared so intently at her mouth that the encounter seemed somehow to be unfolding between him and it without her presence mattering at all.

She lifted herself onto tiptoes, and the tiny birds inside her took off, a great flapping flock of them. They were propelling her toward him, and she wasn’t in charge anymore. She pressed her lips against the spot of chocolate near the corner of his mouth. If she’d thought the chocolate tasted sinful before, she’d been naive. The tang of his skin magnified it, made it magnetic.

“Lucy,” he rasped, his lips moving against her skin as he spoke her name. She waited for more, for him to cry halt. He did not. So she remained where she was, her lips pressed against the corner of his mouth but not moving, the roar of blood in her ears a rushing waterfall.

Beneath her mouth, his jaw clenched, became hard like iron, and his breath, already short, took on a ragged quality. Warmth pooled low in her belly like that chocolate, liquefied and hot. Every second they stood there, unmoving, something coiled more tightly inside her. It was almost painful, but it was impossible to imagine stepping away.

He moved only an inch. Less than an inch. His lips grazed hers, and though they barely touched hers, the warmth in her belly became fire. How was that possible? They weren’t even kissing, not really, and yet she felt as if she were at the gates of Bedlam.

A thought crept in. She tried to push it away, but it persisted. This is why Mary had fallen victim to her bouts of suicidal behavior. This—this unnamable compulsion—would grow and grow until it took over, displacing everything else, everything that made her herself. Unlike Mary, she

wasn’t capable of producing great works of philosophy with the potential to change the world, but she did have a life. A hard-won life she’d made for herself through sheer force of will. Trevor was helping her—she’d had no choice but to permit it given his logical argument that their arrangement would benefit them both. But she needed to remember why she had agreed to stay only for six months. Because men were dangerous—even him. Even Trevor. Perhaps especially him.

So she stepped away.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Jenny Holiday started writing in fourth grade, when her awesome hippie teacher, between sessions of Pete Seeger singing and anti-nuclear power plant letter writing, gave the kids notebooks and told them to write stories. Most of Jenny's featured poltergeist, alien invasions, or serial killers who managed to murder everyone except her and her mom. She showed early promise as a romance writer, though, because nearly every story had a happy ending: fictional Jenny woke up to find that the story had been a dream, and that her best friend, father, and sister had not, in fact, been axe-murdered. From then on, she was always writing, often in her diary, where she liked to decorate her declarations of existential angst with nail polish teardrops. Eventually she channeled her penchant for scribbling into a more useful format. After picking up a PhD in urban geography, she became a professional writer, and has spent many years promoting research at a major university, which allows her to become an armchair astronomer/historian/particle physicist, depending on the day. Eventually, she decided to try her hand again at happy endings--minus the bloodbaths. You can follow her twitter accounts @jennyholi and @TropeHeroine or visit her on the web at jennyholiday.com.

Excerpt One:
His six-foot-plus frame leaned against the leather walls, arms crossed over his muscular chest, his demeanor casual yet controlled. To say he intimidated me would have been an understatement.

 He seemed like the devil incarnate—a strange combination of wickedly handsome and utterly terrifying.

 A strange black smokiness swirled around his frame, and I couldn’t tell if it was coming from him or somewhere in the club. Everything about him exuded danger. Whoever he was, that thing took one look at this man and disappeared. I couldn’t help but feel slightly grateful. The brief windows of light allowed me glimpses of his dark and brooding features. Much of him remained in shadow. But I noticed his stunning eyes. They glowed unnaturally and danced as he watched me. With abnormal speed, they flashed from crystal gray to black coal and back again. His short, jet-black hair was tousled yet perfect, and a slight stubble bordered his jawline.

 His riveting stare petrified and aroused me at the same time. Looking at him made me desirous for things I never thought I would want. I was recovering from the silent assault when a sudden daze clouded my mind, and my eyelashes fluttered uncontrollably. There wasn’t time for me to panic as it lifted within seconds.

I was no longer in the club.

Laugh Out Loud Funny...With Just a Touch of Magic

 One minute Maxine Henley is the happy bride-to-be and the next she’s the girl who gets dumped over the phone. Max has never believed in magic and fairy’s tales, but if wearing a love charm can warm her fiancé’s cold feet, she’s happy to stuff that little wooden heart next to her own and wait. The charm came with a promise that the right man will find her, guaranteed, but how can that happen when her teenage crush Sam O’Neal keeps getting in the way!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt One:
“Excuse me, miss,” a male voice said. “I seem to have lost my phone number. Could I have yours?”
 Max smiled. She’d know that voice anywhere. She just hadn’t expected to hear it in Schomberg. “Your lines don’t get any better with age, O’Neal,” she said, stuffing the charm into her back pocket as she turned around.
 “I’m a little out of practice.” He grinned and stepped from the shadows. “How are you, Max?”
 “Better now,” she said, meaning it.
 Sam O’Neal had been the boy next door, her older brother’s best friend and the one voted most likely to get out of Schomberg. She’d had a crush on him once, the kind of heart-pounding, breath-stealing obsession that fifteen year-old girls do so well. Watching him come toward her now, she wondered if it was her imagination or perhaps some trick of the light that made him look even better than she remembered.
 Max moistened her lips even as she felt the faint shift in her shoulders, the tiny flicker of awareness that was as unexpected as it was inappropriate. This was Sam, after all. The one who didn’t think twice about taking her baby-sitting money in a poker game, or daring her to steal peaches from the Jenkins’s’ orchard, and turned out to be the best friend she’d ever known.
“I can’t believe you’re here,” she said, rising up on her toes to wrap her arms around his neck. “And without even a hint of elf anywhere.”
 “I hid until they ran out of size eleven curly toes.”
She looked up into his eyes and for the first time was glad she’d made the trip. “I have missed you,” she said softly.
 “Me too,” he said, kissing her on the cheek, the way any friend might, and pulling her close for a hug. She held on tight, feeling the strength of his hands on her back, the hard wall of his chest against her breasts and a warmth from both that reached through her fine cotton tank top, making her shiver. She started to step back and wondered for one brief moment if he would stop her, maybe hold on a moment longer, and what she would do if he did.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Lynda Simmons is a writer by day, college instructor by night and a late sleeper on weekends. She grew up in Toronto reading Greek mythology, bringing home stray cats and making up stories about bodies in the basement. From an early age, her family knew she would either end up as a writer or the old lady with a hundred cats. As luck would have it, she married a man with allergies so writing it was.
With two daughters to raise, Lynda and her husband moved into a lovely two storey mortgage in Burlington, a small city on the water just outside Toronto. While the girls are grown and gone, Lynda and her husband are still there. And yes, there is a cat – a beautiful, if spoiled, Birman. If you’d like to read the legend of Birman cats click here. If you’d like a link to allergy relief, click here.
When she’s not writing or teaching, Lynda gives serious thought to using the treadmill in her basement. Fortunately, she’s found that if she waits long enough, something urgent will pop up and save her - like a phone call or an e-mail or a whistling kettle. Or even that cat just looking for a little more attention!
