PictureThis is who you want to see at your door. Find out why?
On New Year’s Eve is about saying goodbye to the old year’s triumphs and disappointments. New Year’s Day is about starting the year fresh. Many believe what you do on January 1st sets the tone for the year. I clean and organize. It is usually the day the decorations come down too.

My goal is to be more organized this year with a system of calendars, daily journal, and a Google calendar that sends my phone reminders.  Tell me one resolution to be entered into the site giveaway, which is chocolate and books. You can pick any book you want from the sidebar. It will come bearing Godiva chocolate too. International winners (outside the US) get two eBooks.

Who Comes Through Your Front Door Matters

An old custom was whoever came through door after the stroke of midnight on December 31st determined your luck for the year. A good year would result if a dark haired, good-looking man bearing gifts arrived first at your front door.

A blond or red-haired man would diminish your luck, while women would bring you bad luck if they came through your door first.

Often people would pay particularly handsome dark haired men to come to their doors, even giving them gifts to bring. As for the rest, they must have had to come to the back door or through the garage.

My hope is good luck finds you in 2014. Remember you can make your own luck. Remember to enter both giveaways too. Use the Rafflecoptor for the grand prize and comment on the sites for blog only giveaways. Have a great 2014. The best is yet to come.

Morgan K Wyatt, raised on a steady diet of superheroes, believed she could fly at a very young age. After using trees, barn lofts, sliding boards, and even a second story window as launch pads, she found her flying skills were limited to fast and downward. By the age of nine, her dreams to be a superhero needed some modifications, which caused her to turn to writing and horseback riding as alternatives to flying.

At the age of twenty, she had another chance at superhero greatness as being one of the few female soldiers trained for combat. The fact that women will be able to serve in combat soon indicates that all the witnesses to the grenade incident have retired. The grenade incident didn’t prevent her two sons or daughter-in-law from enlisting in the service. Having different last names probably helped.

Morgan recently retired from teaching special needs students to write fulltime, instead of in the wee hours of the night. With the help of her helpful husband and loyal hound, she creates characters who often grab plot lines and run with them. As for flying, she prefers the airlines now.

Awakening Olivia North is a love story... tender, romantic, and sensual. It also says a lot about life and how we should all strive to get back to the true essence of who we are.

Outwardly, Olivia North looked the happily married woman. Her children continually made her proud, and her husband had indeed provided the kind of lifestyle and financial security most women could only dream of. Few of her friends could understand what needs she may have beyond the beautiful house, the cars and the apartment on the Sunshine Coast. Yet there was something quietly missing… a sense of partnership and intimacy, and had been for a great many years.

Emptiness engulfed Olivia after her youngest daughter Lucy moved out of the house to university. With no regrets or thoughts of resentment, Olivia walked away from her marriage, reaching out for emotional support from her brother, his wife, and her daughters. Olivia took stock of her financial situation, embracing an uncertain future with faith everything would fall into place.

 photo 85c6c375-f71a-468a-ad8c-b8d2b30deb99_zps986ff285.jpg

Descending the companionway steps to get her mobile phone, she saw the cook busy preparing dinner. The mince was in a large pan on the galley stove, and he had finely sliced onion and garlic on the cutting board. She hugged and kissed him as she passed to and from the aft cabin, saying she would make a quick call to her girls while he made the boat smell so yummy.

Sitting comfortable on the swim step, she was pleasantly surprised that both Sally and Lucy answered their telephones. The must have recognized the call as being from Thailand, and as she hadn’t been calling anywhere near as often as expected, they didn’t want to miss an opportunity to see how things were in Phuket.  Sally had looked thought all the pictures, and especially close at the ones her mother had taken of Andrew.

“Mum, I think I can see what Lucy has been saying. Looking at his eyes, I can understand it when you say Andrew is a gentle and caring man. It shows mum.”

Olivia loved this softening of Sally towards Andrew Walker. Sally had been protective, wary, and not at all caught up in the romantic notion of a holiday in another country with a man she herself had never met. Things were changing.  Lucy, on the other hand, never questioned her mother’s decision. She sensed something about Andrew from the moment they met, and she wholeheartedly approved. She was the romantic of the family. She too had loved the pics and had been back to look at them many times.

“Mum, that Meridien resort in Khao Lak was a romantic paradise. I adored it and you must have had such a nice time there. Have you fallen in love mum?”

That question interrupted Olivia’s thoughts completely. How could she answer Lucy when she wasn’t sure she had the answer herself?  She hesitated a little before saying a word.

“Mum, I’m waiting!”

“Don’t do this to your poor mother. I’m sitting on the back of the boat a few hundred meters off the beach. Andrew is down below cooking lasagna, and the sky is becoming the most beautiful shade of pink. To be honest sweetheart, all I can say is that I am having the most wonderful holiday and I don’t even want to think about this dream coming to an end.”

“Oh My God Mum. I’m crying tears of joy for you. I love you and I love that you guys are having such a romantic time.”

Olivia too had tears in her eyes and saying goodbye to Lucy, reached for the towel she had folded to sit on. Cradling her face in the towel, drying her tears, she sat there looking out over the water as she thought more about Lucy’s question. Yes, she and Andrew definitely shared something very deep. Still, neither of them had mentioned the word love. In a multitude of ways, the word itself seemed superfluous. Emotions were not words, and it was difficult to use words to describe or explain emotions.

Interested in hearing more? Here am excerpt from the book.

Chapter 2: Why Cheating is Wrong

In order for any relationship to begin it has to be built with trust and respect. It takes a lot of work to earn someone’s trust. It takes a lot of work to earn someone’s respect. There is a lot of proving yourself that has to be done. This is no easy task to accomplish. People who don’t know you have to take a chance on you. They have to take a risk to trust you. This means that the person has to work hard to prove that they’re deserving of that respect. They have to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt they are worthy of that trust.

Once a person has your trust and respect it is their responsibility to treasure and take care of that trust. Once trust is gone it is so hard to get it back if you can manage to get it back at all. When a person trusts you there are putting their well being in your hands. They’re operating on faith that you’ll do the right thing for them and by them. They’re expecting you to take care of them in all ways that a love one is supposed to. Trust means reliability in someone’s ability to do what is right by you. When that trust is shattered so is that reliability, that faith, and that security that trust gives.

Cheating is wrong for several reasons. The most obvious of them is the fact that cheating creates and inflicts pain on a person. Betrayal is an emotion that erodes a person’s belief system. It changes how a person sees other people. It changes their mindset. It hinders their freedom to be able to risk and love again. It holds them back from being able to move forward. Most times when a person survives cheating they’re usually unable for a while to get past that pain. For some people they never get past it. It truly changes the way they view and believe in love. This shift in perspective has caused some people to never fall in love again. Some people are so broken that they never are able to fully love anyone ever again.

That person may never fully recover from the pain that cheating has brought into their life. This means that they may never find the person they always wanted to love. Some people become so bitter by cheating that they become cheaters themselves. Their mission in life is to inflict the same kind of pain that was done to them. They believe that this is the way love is, and why should they attempt to change it. They may spend the rest of their life detached from sharing the love they always wanted. This is what cheating does to some people.

Another reason why cheating is wrong is that it destroys families. The horrible pain that is wreaked on the children shapes and molds them into the people they become. They may not be as trusting as they once used to be. They may feel that they don’t deserve love. They may believe no one deserves their love. It can take them decades to sort out what is right and wrong about love. It will take a lot of bad experiences with relationships in order for them to understand. Having to experience the negative effects of cheating can make it difficult for them to find the love that they want and the love they deserve.

Cheating is an act of aggression against you!

Cheating is wrong because it is an act of destruction. It’s an act of aggression. It’s an act of emotional violence on another person. Cheating can destroy in one moment what it has taken decades to create. There have been businesses, families, and organizations that have been took down all because of cheating. Cheating definitely is a very destructive thing. When someone chooses to cheat they’re choosing to be harmful, violent, and aggressive towards you. No matter the reason why they did it. What is so sad about cheating is that the cheater themselves aren’t exempt from the effects. They suffer just as much as the person who was cheated on. Go figure why it continues to happen.

Cheating also robs a person of time. The most precious gift that you can ever give anyone is your time. Those days, months, and years that you have spent dedicated to being loving and giving to someone can never be recovered, and can never be used somewhere else. They are gone forever. Those were moments you could’ve spent with someone who really appreciated you. That is time you could’ve been spent with someone who cherished you enough to not disrespect you like that. Those are years that are gone forever. Who has the right to steal that time from your life for utter nonsense?  No one has this right.

There are many other reasons why cheating is wrong. The fact is people have always done it, and probably will continue to do it. The one thing that I do know is that you can’t let someone’s choice to do you wrong affect you negatively for the rest of your life. Always remember that this was a choice that someone else made, and isn’t a reflection of what you deserve. No matter what the reason that person says. Most cheaters will always deflect by saying it was you. The truth is it wasn’t. It was all about that person, because the choice to cheat was their decision.

Chapter 3: Sign 1- Where’s the Respect?

Respect is the foundation of love. Without respect a deep love can’t be created. Respect is a deep admiration for someone’s abilities, qualities, and achievements. Think about it, when you first meet someone you don’t just automatically fall in love with them. No matter how good looking, nice, or charming they may be. As you get to know that person you begin to like that person more and more because of what you come to know of them.

The more their standards and qualities align with yours the more likely you are to admire them. That admiration only grows the more time you spend with that person. Eventually that great admiration turns into respect, and when you have developed respect for that person you can easily fall in love with them. Respect in a relationship lets a person know that you’ll treat them in a manner as to which they treat themselves. This is the reason why you respect them, because you have seen enough proof to know that this person is going to act according to how you would treat yourself. For instance, you may respect a person who doesn’t lie. This happens because you don’t want to be lied to, and you want to surround

yourself with people who have this particular standard about lying. This ensures that their dealings with you will be honest. The fact that you can be comfortable enough to relax, and let your guard down allows you to be more of yourself.

When you can truly participate in a relationship where who you are is completely accepted you can then enjoy that partnership and that person fully. This is how you build trust in a relationship. Trust is a way to let another person know that you’ll always treat them in a certain way. Once a person believes that you have respect for them then there’s an obligation to maintain that standard. You have consented to allow this person to believe this about you, because you didn’t inform them that it wasn’t true. You didn’t tell them that you won’t or will never treat them respectfully. Respect is very powerful no matter what type of relationship you have.

When you have someone’s respect you’re afforded a lot of leeway that most people wouldn’t just instantaneously get. You’re being given these perks, because the belief is that you can be depended upon to do what’s right by that person. This is trust. When you’re trusted you have a responsibility to come through for that person. You have a duty to perform accordingly. Emotions are developed out of the fact that you can be trusted to do what’s best. So one of the first signals that a person usually gets when a person is cheating is a sense of mistrust from the other person.

Since the significant other has made the decision to cheat they’ve already broken that trust. Think about how much of a struggle it is to respect someone you have chosen to disrespect. It’s like serving two masters. From what I’ve been told no one can completely serve both. What tends to happen is that people start to notice the small incidences of disrespect. For instance, they stop listening to you or caring about what you have to say. They may start ignoring or forgetting requests that you make. They start to act in a way that denotes that they have lost some of the respect that they have had for you. How is this a sign of cheating? If there’s no reason for a person to have lost respect for you such as a gross misconduct on your part, a severe misunderstanding, or some scandalous event of your own making then what other reason could there be for someone to all of a sudden start to disrespect what they once so revered.

The reason why disrespect starts to occur is because that person is becoming more aligned with the other person’s qualities. In order for that person to fully integrate into that person’s life they have to invest all their being into that situation. This makes it hard for them to respect the both of you, because he  knows he’s betraying you. There’s no way for him to escape that fact. There’s no way that he can hide from that fact. That’s why cheating is done secretly since it’s an absolute betrayal with dire consequences. You cannot openly be so treacherous without having to claim that deceitfulness and disloyalty completely. Most cheaters aren’t ready for that.

Most cheaters try intensely to hide their movement towards the other person. This causes an inner conflict with them. This makes it difficult for them to maintain the normal relationship that they have with you. In order for them to be able to move closer to this person they basically have to wean themselves from the relationship he’s already in. There’s no better way to do this than by slowly distancing yourself from the person you’re with. There’s no better way to fall out of love with someone than by finding reasons to disrespect them and the relationship you’re in. You can’t create all of this distance without a valid reason. They may say things like you need to lose weight, or starts pointing out things about you that will make you have less respect for them. This is done in hopes that you’ll give them a reason to leave the relationship.

This makes it easier for them to continue to do what they’re doing.

When disrespect starts to happen out of the blue this is a strong indicator that cheating may be going on. The majority of people know that in order to keep a relationship going there has to be a reciprocation of respect. When the respect starts to diminish there’s always a reason why. If there were no precipitating circumstances that justify the respect dwindling in your relationship; that sudden decline of respect can be a clear sign that cheating is happening with your mate. Remember that respect is the foundation of any relationship without a foundation there’s no relationship. If your significant other is trying to end your relationship there’s no better way to do it than by destroying the foundations your relationship is built on.

5 Subtle Signs of Disrespect from a Cheater:

Nit picking- the cheater finds any little thing they can to make you feel bad about yourself. They always have an endless supply of comments of all the things you do wrong, can’t do right, or need to improve.

Indifference- the cheater just suddenly stops caring about how you feel, your needs, and your wants. When you make them aware of this they could care less about you being happy in the relationship. You just seem to be less important than what you used to be.

Forgetfulness- yes, people can be forgetful about things sometimes, but a cheater just never seems to remember anything that you may need them to do. They can’t make it to that important event, they can’t remember to keep promises they’ve made to you, and they aren’t sorry for it either.

Silence- all of sudden your partner doesn’t have much to communicate with you about these days. You can’t ask them a single question without them getting upset about it. Everything you say is an irritant to them. They make a special effort to avoid contact and conversation with you completely.

Preoccupation- the cheater for some odd reason always has something better to do. They never want to go anywhere with you, because this thing or this person is more of a priority. They don’t want to spend any quality time with you because they’re too tired, or backed up with work to complete. Your cheater always has something that they’re preoccupied with that makes it hard for them to be with you.

Suicide is selfish.
It tells the world that you are weak. It tells the world your family and friends have failed. It leaves them with guilt that they could have done more but didn't. It tells them they are clueless and helpless.
I am weak, but I am not selfish.
My suicide will not leave my family and friends with guilt and shame; it will leave them thankful that they knew me for the short time I was here.
- Cosette Hugo
Her brother died. Her parents divorced. Her high school bully is relentless. Cosette doesn't have a lot to live for, but it isn't until she accidentally kills someone that Cosette makes the decision to take her own life.
Unwilling to bring shame to her mom, best friend Mattie, or her boyfriend Chris, Cosette decides the best method of suicide is to become a victim of the local serial killer, The Poser. But every time she goes out to find him she gets attacked; her instincts take over, and she ends up killing her attackers. This quickly leads to unbearable guilt. Desperate to finish this before she gets caught or racks up more victims, Cosette does the unthinkable.
"And when I reach my final goal, to meet my brother in heaven, and we're looking down at my victim in Hell, he will say to me 'Well done, Cosette. What a Beautiful Suicide.'"

“No, I just want to apologize.” He loosely holds my hand and walks me to my couch. “I crossed a line I said I wouldn’t and you warned me. You know enough about me to know that I’m no boy scout. But I want you to know that I know enough about you that I think I should stop asking questions.”
I hate what he’s saying to me, but before I get mad at him, he holds up a finger. “I have something for you.”
“Do I want it?”
“Actually, I have two things, and yes, you’ll want one and need the other.” He holds his fist out. I put my hand underneath, waiting to catch whatever he drops. “This I stole, because that’s just what I do, but it doesn’t make it any less meaningful, okay?”
“Okay.” I grin at his cute introduction.
“If you’ve changed your mind about committing to me, then let me know now before I open my hand and look stupid.”
“You saw me completely naked. I think that’s commitment enough.”
“Very true, good answer.” He opens his hand and drops a small ring with two diamonds separated by a deep blue sapphire. “This is a promise ring. It’s not an engagement ring or anything like that. It’s just me pledging myself to you. If you accept me, then accept the ring. If you aren't sure, then don’t take it. I know it’s old fashioned, but I’m an old fashioned kind of guy.”
“I’ll take it and I’ll take you.” He slides it on my finger while I cry. I lunge at him and kiss him. He smiles and kisses me back.
He’s perfect, just perfect.
I wish I could be like him, so loving, and thoughtful, and kind—but I’m not. I knew when I started that I would not be good for Chris. Shit, I’m on a suicide mission and here he wants to pledge himself to me.
“Chris, I can’t take this.”
“What? Rejection already?”
I pull away from him, feeling the vacuuming black hole sucking onto me, letting me know it’s there waiting for me. “I’m not good enough for you, Chris. I can’t take you down with me.”
“What do you mean down with you? Cosette, I’ll go anywhere with you. You’re perfect for me.”
“The Cozy you know is not the real me. You are pledging yourself to my body, not my soul.”
“I don’t understand. You said you loved me.” His voice cracks, breaking my heart.
“Oh my God, I do! But my soul is dying. It started dying a long time ago and keeps dying the more I cross these lines. It’s not fair for me to offer you something that isn't perfect. I can’t take this from you. I’m not worthy.” I take the ring off and hand it back to him.
He stares at it, confused. “Did I happen to mention that this was stolen?”
I chuckle through tears.

Image of Atty EveI was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Family life was rough with a religious mother and a short-tempered, alcoholic father. (Picture Archie Bunker) My escape was reading and music. I think I was the only kid with my nose in a book during the Air Force Academy football games.
As a teen I was an 80's new waver with black shaved hair, a pale face and bright red lipstick. I was very self-destructive and always got into trouble. Needing a change I followed my father's footsteps and joined the Air Force.
During my four year enlistment I was stationed at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada where I met my wonderful husband. We both got out of the military and moved to Southern Indiana, on the outskirts of Louisville, Kentucky. I have two teenage boys whom I try to embarrass but have yet to succeed, they have great senses of humor.
I wrote my first novel over ten years ago and was on the verge of having it published when, sadly, my publisher passed away. I shelved my books for a few years to work on our family business. Now I'm back to writing and have decided my fate is in my own hands. And since I hate being told what to do I am self-publishing.

After her car breaks down, Beth Kennedy is forced to stay in Florida, the target of Hurricane Sabrina. She stocks up supplies, boards up windows, and hunkers down to wait out the storm, but her plan unravels when she witnesses a car accident. Risking her life, she braves the winds to save the driver. Just when she believes they are safe, she finds out the man she saved could possibly be more dangerous than the severe weather.

Donovan Goldwyn only wanted to hide from the police, but the hurricane shoved his car into a tree. Now he's trapped with a beautiful woman while the evidence that can prove his innocence to a brutal crime is out there for anyone to find.

As Hurricane Sabrina wreaks havoc, Beth has no other choice but to trust Donovan to stay alive. But will she survive, or will she become another hurricane crime?

Excerpt:

On the television set, which was fighting to stay alive, was breaking news. She caught bits and pieces of it as she emptied the bowl of blood-tainted water and threw out the cloth. It was about a high-speed chase that had occurred about a half-hour ago. Beth shook her head. Apparently, Donovan wasn’t the only idiot driving around during a hurricane.

She went back into the living room and began replacing all the medical supplies into the first-aid kit. Behind her, a reporter was explaining that the driver of the car was believed to be a murder suspect.

“The name of the—”

The lights flashed, prompting Beth to snatch up her flashlight.

“Donovan Goldwyn.”

Her fingers went cold around the plastic tube as ice frosted her veins. She straightened her spine and turned stiffly to the television, her heart wasn’t beating in her chest. On the screen was the picture of the man who was right now changing in her bedroom. Above it was a caption in bold letters that read—SUSPECT.

She gripped the flashlight in her frozen fingers. Her heart thudded fearfully. She stared into the immobilized violet eyes through the glass.

“Oh my god,” she gasped.

She had brought a murderer into her home!

When Dallas resident Callie Taylor died young, she expected to go to Heaven, or maybe Hell. Instead, when she met her fate early thanks to a creep with a knife and a mommy complex, she went to Alabama. Now she's witnessed another murder, and she's not about to let this one go. She's determined to help solve it before an innocent man goes to prison. And to answer the biggest question of all: why the hell did she wake up dead in Alabama?

As Molly straightened up, the man slipped the wire over her head and twisted it around her neck. She struggled, but he pulled the garrote tighter and tighter.
I was screaming at the top of my ghostly voice, for all the good it did me. I moved up behind the man and beat at his back with closed fists--fists that slipped in and out of his back without ever making real contact. He shuddered a little--clearly he was one of the very slightly sensitive ones--but he didn’t loosen his hands.
I reached up and tried to grab the wire, tried to pull against the pressure he was exerting on the wire and it did loosen for an instant. But only for an instant. The living have more control over solid objects than the dead do. I never resented that fact more than at that moment.
But I kept trying. I kept trying as Molly’s face turned purple, then blue, then black, kept trying even as she drooped in the man’s grip.
Then he loosened the wire and it was too late. I watched that wispy, light-on-fog life force slip out of Molly and move on to wherever it is that other people go when they die. I was glad she didn’t show up next to me as a full-blown ghost. At that moment, I wouldn’t have wished my impotent half-existence on anyone.
I couldn’t help thinking that if I’d been alive, I might have been able to save her.
If I could have cried real tears, I would have. As it was, I was sobbing hoarsely and calling the man every dirty name I could think of.
I was still cursing as I followed him around the kitchen. First he opened the pantry and pulled out a box of Hefty garbage bags. Then he grabbed a knife out of the block on the counter. And finally, he picked up Molly’s body and carried it to the bathroom.

Three ebooks up for grabs to three random commenters.  Do you think of airports as a romantic destination?

Picture
BLURB:
Cinda isn’t ready to become a glorious butterfly.  She’s still in the caterpillar stage with her generous curves.  All she really wants is for a man to appreciate who she is.  The way Jack did when they met at the airport. They shared a romantic day as they both waited for their flights. He kissed her goodbye and tucked his card in her suit pocket with instructions to call. It figures she’d lose his card. Luck never dealt her a romantic winning hand, but it’s time to reshuffle the cards.

Six months fantasizing about Jack was enough. Raven determines not only to help her friend to become the butterfly she is, but also to give her friend a gift she’ll never forget.  Cinda voices her doubts about attending the masquerade ball. Raven reveals that Santa left her special gift at the ball. Her job is to retrieve it.

The Story Behind the Story
Back when I was dating, a man put on his online profile that he walked through a crowded airport and spontaneously kissed a beautiful woman. I pounced on that statement because I saw so many issues with it. Maybe she was married or traveling with her boyfriend who would have probably punch him. She could have screamed and kicked him thinking she was being attacked. There were so many ways the scenario could have gone. My potential date admitted he made it up to sound interesting. It did make him sound , uhm, different. His imaginary exploits did not impress me.  It did get me thinking.

What if a woman bumped into an viable man at the airport, they talk, realize there's a connection, spend the time between flights together, kiss, and then, say goodbye. It was a wonderful romantic interlude, but what stopped it from being more?

This missing business card with the all important phone number, this revelation came about not from a date, but from a possible business contact. I tried to act calm while the man who displayed interest in my book handed me his business card. As you guessed, the card never made it home. Let's see how Cinda deals with this problem.

EXCERPT

The heading read Sex with a Perfect Stranger. It made Cinda chuckle at its very cliché-ness. Her best friend, Raven, in front of the bathroom mirror putting the final touches on her makeup, called out, “What’s so funny?”

“This book I downloaded for free. I thought it would be fun. Besides it didn’t cost me anything.” Her eyes traveled down the paragraph, causing a tiny spark in the back of her mind with an idea so ludicrous she attempted to stamp it out before it could even grow into a fantasy. When she did fantasize, every man evolved into Jack.

Raven poked her head out of the open doorway. “What’s it called?”

Now I’ve done it. Raven had been her best friend since they both wore braces and glasses at the same grueling awkward time in sixth grade. It seemed fitting they formed a bond since some of the more popular girls nicknamed them Team Ugly.

Cinda smiled at her strikingly gorgeous friend. She certainly had her revenge on those petty females by becoming an unconventional beauty with her coal black hair and vivid blue eyes. Maybe her transformation gave her the confidence to say whatever she thought. Nah, it was always there. Lately, she seemed to be overly concerned with Cinda’s love life or, rightly put, lack of one.

She’d have to tell her the name of the book. The woman would hound her like a dog after a steak bone. “‘Sex with a Perfect Stranger’”

Her friend snorted and stepped all the way out of the bathroom, fixing her with a direct gaze. Placing both hands on her hips, she twisted her mouth in what Cinda termed her considering expression, which sometimes didn’t bode well for the person she was considering.

“Mmm, doesn’t sex usually involve a man.” She paused and winked before continuing. “Or two?”

Cinda’s face flushed with the image of two men smiling seductively at her, not that she wanted two. Never mind. She tabled the thought, knowing she’d opened the topic she tried to avoid.

Her friend cocked her head and gave her a saucy grin. “It’s been so long since you’ve been in a relationship, I doubt you know what to do with a man if you had one.”

Even though she knew her friend was teasing, it didn’t stop the hurt. The words reflected her musings to a certain extent. “Use it unless you want to lose it,” her free-spirited friend would remind her, once again.

“I would know.” She rushed to assure. “Besides, not everyone can be like you, drop dead beautiful and have any man she wants with a slight nod of her head.”

Raven burst into paroxysm of snorting pig laughter. It always amazed her that her friend never lost her awkward laugh. Maybe she couldn’t. After all, she never totally lost her country accent. Even the elocution lesson didn’t totally wipe out the down-home twang.

“Cinda, Cinda, the other side always look better. I don’t have anything you don’t have. The only difference is you refuse to display your attributes. You’ve never been a woman to use what the good Lord gave you.  After Keith left you, you hid yourself behind business frump attire.”
